Here’s what you should do:

1. Let your beard grow as long as you are comfortable with.
2. Shave it off completely
3. Cry
4. Grow it back. 

A full growth/full shave cycle is the only way (I know of) to get a nice dense, full and uncrazy haired beard. Repeat these four steps until your facial hair deems you worthy of epic beardedness.
